Saint Benedict Cemetery - Logan County, Arkansas

When I arrived at the Motel in Paris, Logan County, Arkansas, Kathy Fuller was already there. She had her maps, list of people buried in certain cemeteries, driving directions, computer up and running. We were ready to go Gravin', AFTER, our great lunch at the Grapevine Resturant. I had been told about the Grapevine by different Logan County folks on the internet. It lived up to it's reputation. Kathy then drove to the Library. I left Arkansasgravestones.org business cards with the Libarian.

Kathy suggested we go to St Benedict which was close to where we were. So off to St Benedict. There is a very large Abbey called Subiaco, just a few miles from Paris. It is just so beautiful. The area is well populated with Catholic cemeteries. St Benedict is one of the many Catholic cemeteries we visited.

It was NOT Texas hot, it was Arkansas hot. Muggy and humid, and it makes you sweat like you have been in a shower. I had my hat and other items. This lovely cemetery actually was so clean and well maintained, that I took off my shoes and started photographing. But is was a fight to keep the sweat from rolling down my forehead into ny eyes. Lots of trees, thah helped some. We just continued and moved along at a good pace. We finished St Benedict's and then drove around to place other cemeteries in the area, following Kathy's good maps. We went back to the motel and Kathy started downloading to a disk the St Benedict photos.

Then our friend Larry arrived. Since none of us had ever seen each other and only talked by phone, it was good to finally put faces to names. We talked over our plans for the next 3 days. Decided which cemeteries we would try to complete. Then we drove to a couple ot cemeteries so we could plot them on the map. We ended our first day at a great Japanese Resturant. Truth Time: we stayed up talking and planning until, well much later than I usually stay up! Larry had to leave as he was still teaching. Tomorrow we would be off and running!
