Snakes Alive

Tootie,

This is soooo funny!

My friend Judy and I had spent most of the day Wed. April 15, 2009, photographing the Dickson Cemetery near Cherokee City, Benton Co. AR, and then had scoped out some in the area around the old Beaty community for our next trip in NW Benton Co.

Garter Snake

We wanted to know the size, and plan on what ones and how many we can do in one day. We had first stopped at the old Fields Cemetery over the line in OK from Maysville, as she had wanted to see it, and with the overgrowth not as bad yet as on my prior trip, I did find a few stones I didn't see on the prior trip in July 2008. This was a place for snakes to hang out if ever there was one on both trips, but nary a one was seen.

So, we stop at the Beaty Cemetery, which is well taken care of, although out in the middle of nowhere, and had been mowed somewhat recently . I walked over to check this stone out, and moved the leaves from the foliage out of the way, and look what I saw! He was pretty good size for a garter snake! Got a photo of the snake, but not the stone this trip! With some of the ones we tromped through, we thought it was just too funny that the one that wasn't overgrown had the snake!

Along with this being Judy's first trip to photograph cemeteries, she said she did learn a few things.

" Things I learned.

They are not going to keep me from going with you. They meaning: snakes, spiders, ticks. I had too much fun! "

So we have a new graver, and I have a buddy to go with on a regular basis!
